A Clear Digital Hub for a Growing Research Network
A focused research platform designed for Ghent University to make consortiums, scientific updates and events easy to publish, discover and navigate.
Description
The Cell Death Research Hub connects researchers across Belgian universities to share expertise, encourage collaboration and increase the visibility of research in the field of cell death.
Wizzou was commissioned by Ghent University to design and develop a central digital platform for the initiative, providing a clear place to present research consortiums, publish scientific updates and communicate upcoming events. Rather than creating an unnecessarily complex experience, the platform was deliberately designed around clarity, readability and straightforward navigation.
Where the Challenge Began
Making Complex Research Easy to Explore
Academic and research websites can quickly become difficult to navigate as information grows across research groups, publications, events, announcements and other initiatives.
For the Cell Death Research Hub, the challenge was not to create a visually elaborate website. The priority was making a growing amount of scientific information accessible without distracting from the content itself.
Researchers needed a straightforward way to publish and maintain information about consortiums, events and updates, while visitors needed to quickly understand the network and find the research or information relevant to them.
The website therefore needed an information structure that could grow over time without becoming increasingly difficult to navigate.
From Challenge to Solution
Designed Around the Research
Wizzou started by designing the platform in Figma, focusing the experience on information hierarchy, readability and predictable navigation rather than unnecessary visual complexity.
The resulting interface keeps the content at the center of the experience. Research consortiums have dedicated areas where their work can be presented, while events, articles and announcements can be published in a consistent structure and surfaced throughout the website.
The platform was developed using WordPress, giving the team a familiar and accessible environment for maintaining the website without requiring technical knowledge for everyday content changes.
Reusable content structures ensure that new information follows the same presentation and navigation patterns as the rest of the platform. This allows the website to expand as new research, consortiums and activities are added without requiring the underlying pages to be redesigned each time.
Wizzou continues to maintain the platform on a monthly basis, handling technical maintenance and helping ensure that the website remains a dependable resource as the research network develops.
What Our Approach Delivered
A Platform That Keeps the Focus on Research
The Cell Death Research Hub now provides a central digital destination where visitors can discover participating research consortiums, follow scientific developments and stay informed about events and activities across the network.
For the research team, structured content management makes it possible to keep that information current without treating every update as a separate web development project.
The deliberately restrained design also gives the platform room to grow. New research and initiatives can be introduced within an established information structure while the experience remains familiar and easy to navigate.
Combined with ongoing maintenance from Wizzou, the result is a straightforward and sustainable platform designed to support the research community over the long term.
